The aim of this blog/diary is to give you an insight into my 2yr plan to reach IM Hawaii.

Currently I am injured after the Cape Epic MTB race in April. Problems started with achilles/calf muscles and since then a stress fracture has been found at head of fibula. My treatments with Hayley include the Transeva therapy machine, aswell as dry-needling into the muscles.

The Transeva therapy has helped my muscles recover from races in the past, speeded up recovery from previous injuries and assisted in flushing away toxins. I am a big believer in staying with things that work, and hence I am happy to endorse and continue to be treated by Hayley and Transeva.

Over and above that, I am getting into the gym twice a week for a strength building session. Still able to swim and light cycling, which has kept me sane and made sure I can work on my weakness (swimming).

The aim of this blog/diary is to give you an insight into my 2yr plan to reach IM Hawaii. Those who know the qualification process, know that depending on the course, you need to aim for about a 9h20 - 9h40 IM time. Photo below is when we met the legend of Hawaii Ironman, Mark Allen at World 70.3 champs in Clearwater 2006.

What does that equate to in terms of each discipline, knowing what I think I am capable of.

Swim 60mins

Bike 5h00

Run 3h30

So what do I need to strive for in order to get to the start line in the best shape and give myself a chance of qualifying;

Staying injury free - Easier said than done. Once fit and healthy again, I will be working on my flexibility and am going to start a weekly yoga class. Niggles which lead to injuries stem from tight muscles, nip it in the bud early and stretch and you lower the risk.

Consistency - I have always maintained that in order to have a great IM you need to have been consistent in your training. Looking back at my training log last year, my weekly hours were very inconsistent. Something I will be working on during my off-season.

I had a little hit out this weekend at the Eton relays, where I swam and biked. My bike time was slower than last year, but with no specific bike training, I cannot really complain. It did hit home how much I actually missed competing and cannot wait to get stuck in again.

So for the meantime, that is all there is to say, except I hope you will continue to follow my path back to full fitness with the help of Hayley & transeva treatments.
