Pain is now my new friend.........
Well it has been a very long time since I updated this blog, and that was mainly because it seemed like I was in a rut of injuries that were just getting worse. To cut a long story short, my shoulder which I had operated on last year, started playing up again after 2 months of intense swimming (May & June). So from July I was having my shoulder treated by Hayley and James Fleming. Then all of a sudden I started getting the most intense back ache from about the T12, all the way down into S1. The sacro-illiac joint was very tight and was manipulated, but my pelvis was still not aligning itself. Anyone who has ever had that dull achy sensation throughout their back, will know how debillitating it can get. I changed chairs at work, stretched, tried massage and yet nothing got better. By now I made it my personal mission to find out what was going on. I searched sports injury sites, and everything I found, I emailed to Hayley & James. (I am sure I crashed their emails). Only when I went to South African doctor at work and he mentioned that with my history of kidney failure (Comrades 2001), checking for kidney stones might be an option. So off I went, had a CT scan, and BOB'S YOUR UNCLE !! There they were.....2 x 3mm stones. Now you may think, "aarghhh 3mm, that's nothing." But it is the small ones that cause the most pain. Kidney stones in your kidney are not really that harmful, but if they dislodge and then get caught in the urethra, that's when the fun & pain begins. What are my options? 1 - Have laser shock therapy of some sort, where they blast lazer onto stones, which breaks them up and you pass them out naturally through your urine. 2 - Sit tight and wait for them to pass naturally. Risk is that they then can go on to cause some sort of abcess. 3 - Doc goes in with stethoscope and tries to find them with ultrasound and break them up/extract them. Mine were too small for option 1& 3. Which means, I was told to sit tight, take some pain medication and wait for them to pass out naturally. Anyone passed a kidney stone? It is akin to when a women gives birth !! So as we speak, I am sitting here and bricking it everytime I have to go to the toilet to pee. If you hear a scream anywhere in London or Surrey in next 10 days.....DO NOT FEAR.......Keeto has kicked out the aliens !! Pain is weakness leaving the body. And hopefully when they depart...I can start my comeback to some sort of training again. Chat in about 10 days.
